Australia resists global calls to change medium-term emissions target

Despite global pressure, the Morrison government has resisted changing Australia’s medium-term emissions target at the COP26 climate change summit.

One of the key outcomes of the Glasgow summit is the push for countries like Australia to revisit their medium-term climate commitments.

Australia has already shifted its 2030 commitment from 26 to 28 per cent – however projects to reach a 35 per cent reduction on 2005 emissions.

The Morrison government insists Australia’s 2030 emissions target is fixed, even if it is projected to reach even higher.
