A police operation targeting the possession and distribution of child exploitation material led to a number of Queensland men being charged with child abuse offences.

During the five-day operation, a number of electronic items and digital evidence was seized from various homes on the Sunshine Coast.

After officers searched a 30-year-old Sunshine Coast man’s home, he was charged with 43 child abuse related offences.

Queensland Police allege the man was sexually exploiting a child and was using encrypted platforms to access and possess abusive material.

He will face a number of charges in the Gympie Magistrates Court in January, including multiple counts of rape, indecent treatment of a child and making and distributing child exploitation material and the aggravated networking offence.

While investigations into the man’s alleged offending continue, police said the child had been “rescued” from further harm.

Separately, an Eumundi man was charged with possessing and using a carriage service to access and distribute child exploitation material.

The 49-year-old is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court later this month.

In a third incident, a 25-year-old man will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court in about two weeks after the Yandina resident was charged with two counts of the possessing child exploitation material.

Detective Acting Inspector Cameron Burke said police would continue to target offenders who involved themselves with the abusive material.

“These children are re-victimised every time someone downloads and shares an image,” he said.

“If you view or upload these images, you are contributing to the horrific abuse of children.”
