Ethan Laird shares Manchester United ambition after Bournemouth loan switch

Ethan Laird wants to emerge as a first-team player at Manchester United and switching to Bournemouth will help the Academy graduate on that path.

Having spent the first half of this season in the Championship with Swansea City, the right-back has completed a follow-up move to the Vitality Stadium.

The 20-year-old made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Swans after teaming up with Russell Martin, once again, after the same manager signed him on a temporary basis for MK Dons last campaign.

United did not anticipate Laird heading elsewhere midway through the term.

However, the Cherries made an offer for the defender and the prospect of a new experience, playing in a different formation and the chance to win promotion was regarded as an ideal opportunity.

Speaking to Bournemouth club media, Laird said: “I’m happy. I can’t wait to get started. We’ve got some games to win! [It’s been] chaotic but that’s part of football. You get your head around things and focus on what needs to be focused on, which is Bournemouth now.

“I think we all know it’s at Premier League standard, the facilities are brilliant.

“I’m enjoying the people here and have got to speak to a few of them. I know a couple of them, as well, it’s looking promising. I spoke to the gaffer a few times today, as well, a quick catch-up and saying we can’t wait to get started.”

Laird added: “It plays a big part in my heart and United always will do. That’s where I want to be.

“Hopefully, that’s good enough levels to be called and used. Obviously, Manchester United is a big part of me.

“I can’t wait to be there soon but, obviously, now is the next step on the journey and I’ve got to help win games at Bournemouth and enjoy myself here.”
