A “battle” between a Good Morning Britain star and another newsreader ensued on Twitter on Wednesday after a huge coincidence came to light.
GMB correspondent Nick Dixon was challenged after it emerged a Canadian broadcaster shares his name.
Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway discussed the events during Friday’s instalment of the early morning show.
Ben said: “An online battle took place yesterday… would you believe it there’s more than one Nick Dixon?
“Not in our world there isn’t, but there’s a Canadian Nick Dixon – @NewsGuyNick – who is also a broadcaster.
“A battle ensued yesterday, who would reach 16,000 followers first? I’m pleased to say, as we always new, our Nick Dixon got there first.”
Kate cheered, with Ben then introducing Nick to the segment.
Ben continued: “There he is. To the victor go the spoils, congratulations.”
Kate then made a dig at Boris Johnson, adding: “If you fancy celebrating you better get yourself round to the back of Number 10, because the garden there seems to be the place to do it.”
Nick admitted he wasn’t competitive, but minutes into the competition he found himself constantly refreshing his Twitter feed.
When asked if he’d spoken to the Canadian Nick Dixon, he added: “I haven’t to be honest, he’s dead to me now.
“I’m the winner, no interest in this guy.”
NewsGuyNick, however, tweeted the British presenter to say: “Congrats @NickDixonITV you WIN! That was fun!!
“And hello to all of my new followers… thanks for making it close! (Race you to 17k Smiling face with open mouth and smiling eyes)”
