Recently, Princess Mako, the eldest daughter of the current Crown Prince of Japan, got married to her college sweetheart, Kei Komuro.

But, in accordance with the Imperial Household Law, she had to give up her royal status. Since 2017, when the engagement was first publicly announced, the couple faced disapproval from the Japanese public because they deemed Kei unfit for their princess due to his low social status.
