Updates as multiple streets sealed off after man dies in hit and run

We’ll be bringing you the latest updates after a man was killed in a hit and run this morning.

Police have confirmed that a number of road closures are in place including Moss Bank Road and Washway Lane, in St Helens.

The closures are in place after officers found the body of a man in the road just after 12.30am today, on Wednesday, January 12.

Boris Johnson apologised for the Downing Street lockdown garden party today as Labour leader Keir Starmer called for his resignation.

Addressing MPs in the House of Commons during Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Johnson said he “went outside for 25 mins” to thank staff but admitted “with hindsight I should have sent them back indoors”.

The Prime Minister claimed he felt his actions on May 20 fell “within the rules”.

Covid rules to be relaxed this week as Government makes ‘appropriate move’

Some coronavirus rules will change this week, according to a UK health minister.

Stephen Donnelly presented advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) to Cabinet on Wednesday, and changes to isolation rules will now take effect from midnight on Thursday.

NPHET had recommended that people who are deemed close contacts but have received a booster vaccination and have no symptoms should no longer have to isolate for five days.
