Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says former Premier Gladys Berejiklian revealed her relationship with disgraced MP Daryl Maguire to former chief of staff Sarah Cruickshank in 2018.
“This evidence is a hammer blow to the credibility of Gladys Berejiklian,” Mr Clennell told Sky News Australia.
Mr Clennell said, “there was no one closer” to Ms Berejiklian than Ms Cruickshank in government, but Ms Cruickshank was forced to give “evidence contrary to the case” of Ms Berejiklian.
Mr Clennell said after Mr Maguire was forced to resign when he was caught by ICAC in a phone tap, Ms Berejiklian called Ms Cruickshank admitting the relationship.
Ms Cruickshank said Ms Berejiklian told her of the relationship but had said it had ended before Ms Berejiklian became Premier.
Ms Cruickshank told ICAC she believed Ms Berejiklian was informing her for media reasons, in case she had been seen with Mr Maguire.
