Phil Foden has admitted that he has had to take Pep Guardiola’s calls to focus on board after making his goal-scoring return to the starting XI.
It was Foden who grabbed the game’s only goal as he brilliantly guided Kevin De Bruyne’s exquisite pass into the bottom corner after 15 minutes.
It was the midfielder’s, along with Jack Grealish, first start in two games after both were dropped to the bench by Guardiola after they were pictured on a night out following the 7-0 win over Leeds.
After impressing on his return to the side, Foden has said how important it is he doesn’t let his focus slip.
“Yeah definitely,” Foden said when asked by Amazon if he had to take Guardiola’s message of focus on board.
“Around the Christmas time you can’t really take your foot off the gas. You have to keep going and remain focused.
“This team’s doing that at the moment and you can see that we’re getting maximum points and that’s really good to see.”
It’s been a great week for City as Liverpool lost to Leicester on Tuesday and Brighton equalised late on against Chelsea to see City extend their lead at the top.
Foden believes that just shows how challenging the league is.
“It’s the most challenging league in the world and just goes to show you can drop points at any time,” he added.
“Like I said, the team is remaining focussed at the moment and playing really well so I’m happy.”
