PM sparks fight over electric vehicles

The Prime Minister has unveiled his electric vehicle strategy – accelerating the rollout of charging and hydrogen refuelling stations to support 1.7 million electric vehicles nationwide by the end of the decade.

The plan is expected to create more than 2,600 jobs through $500 million in combined public and private investment.

Reducing emissions generated by transport is considered a crucial step to achieving net zero by 2050.

Sky News Australia discussed the issue with the NRMA’s Peter Khoury.

Mr Khoury said there is “no doubt” Australia is definitely behind the rest of the world on electric car sales.

“But if we look at the progress we’ve made in the last 6-12 months alone we think that we will catch up and catch up relatively quickly,” he told Sky News Australia.
