Schools need to give kids a ‘balanced understanding of what this country is about’

Australian schools need to provide children with a “balanced understanding of what this country is about”, says Adoni Media’s Leisa Goddard.

The Australian is reporting Education Minister Alan Tudge believes the next generation of Australians will be unwilling to defend the nation in a military crisis because of the negative view of its history they are being taught in schools.

In a major speech on Friday Mr Tudge will push for wide-ranging changes to the draft of the national curriculum.

“I think the point he’s going to make tomorrow is that we need to celebrate that we are a liberal democracy,” Ms Goddard said.

“Because if the kids are coming out of school and not understanding that and not accepting that why would the go and join the army or the navy and want to defend this country?”
